Cognative Theory

The activities in this weeks reading directly connect with the Cognitive Theory by incorporating the process of making connections. The Cognitive Theory is all about elaboration, forming connections to produce long term memories. In both Chapters 4 and 6 the activities discussed incorporate creating visual connections through the use of tables, and note taking. Ms. Douglas from Chapter 4 had created a cueing and questioning activity in Kidspiration exposing students to visual and auditory instruction engaging their sensory processors and creating connections for students on the topic of bridges. With these activites creating clear connections to other ideas or "Nodes" in graphic organizers ther is a definite corrolation between the activities in teh reading resources and the Cognitive Theory.

  1. Amber,

I agree that there was a correlation between the cognative theory and our reading resources. I, personally, haven't used the Kispiration software, but do know other teachers that have. Have you used this software in your class? If you have, which subjects would it most benefit?

  2. Amber,

I found that creating a concept map through Webspiration really demonstrated how students can make connections and retain these connections for future use. It provides a visual representation for those visual learners. Using the arrows to link the concepts symbolizes the connections that students should be making as well. I had much enjoyment creating a cognitive organizer and I intend on making more to enhance my students learning.

  3. Jenn,
I have used Kidspiration in all subjects. I think that it is a great visual ques for students. I use it in spelling for students at centers to match vocabulary and spelling words with the word families that they belong in. I also use it in other subjects such as math and social studies the kids really enjoy coming up and using the mimio pen with it.

  4. Megan,
I also used the Webspiration software to create my concepts map. I think that I will enjoy using it in the future with my class too.
