Game Plan

After reading the National Education Standards for Teachers I feel that there are two areas that I need to develop. The two indicators for professional growth for me were “Model Digital Age Work and Learning” and “Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership” (NETS-T, 2008).

Goal: Work with peers and professionals in the educational community using technology. I will work with those who already use a wide range of technology and I will also collaborate with other teachers during instruction.

Participate in Professional Learning Communities were technology is the main focus to explore various creative implementations of technology.

Action to Achieve: I will find teachers who are actively engaged in collaborative projects and search other professional resources for ideas that involve collaborating with technology.

To improve my professional growth I will seek out others proficient in technology use and get involved with our school Technology Committee to stay current on new implementations of technology and participate in trainings.

Monitor: To monitor my practice of collaborative projects I will create a blog in which I will be able to reflect on the practices that I am learning and how the implementation is evolving.

To reflect on my professional development with technology, I will keep a journal to record a review of new implementations of technology that I am using and my thoughts or ideas of how to use new information.

Evaluate: I will video tape a collaborative project as it is being applied in the classroom. I will then watch the video with a peer and assess the positives and negatives of the process, the successful outcomes in student progress along with their involvement.

To evaluate my professional development I will return to the reflection journals to assess how I have maintained the use of previously favored technology tools.I will also gauge my mastery of using the current technology tools in the classroom.

  1. I think that is a great area to improve in, and I like your plan of action. I do think that in addition to finding new resources and other professionals you should see about observing those individuals while they give a lesson and/or activity that collaborates with technology. Finding ideas is great, but it is nice to have an example of implementation that you can compare with. After you video tape yourself, you can compare it with the example that you observed and see if there are areas that you could improve, or see if there are areas that the other professional could improve in.

  2. We have a technology committee too, and I never really thought about who was on that committee. Would you seek other teachers who are proficient in technology from other schools? You gave me a great idea. I never thought of emailing principals and asking them to forward the email on to a teacher in their school who would like to collaborate virtually. I found one teacher so far and I met her on the tennis court. Principals know who is tech savy and who is not. Usually tech savy people are on the technology committee. Thanks for the advice. I need to learn more about how to observe students while they are working and how to record quickly and efficiently how they are working.

  3. I really like your idea of videotaping your lesson, but I dont know what it will accomplish. It seems better suited for a direct teaching assignment. Could you make a poll using poll daddy and place it onto a blog site to get student feedback or a questionaire. I also like to examine how students performed on a standardized test and ask myself, did this assignment enhance the students learning or did it have little or no affect on their learning. It all comes back to #'s and testing unfortunately! I hope we find a new way to assess students at the state level.

  4. edcribbs,
It is a great suggestion to observe people using technology. I like to see how other people implement ideas and put their own spin on an idea.

  5. Sonia Bannon,
I would definitely seek out other professionals from other schools, I already work closely with the technology teacher at my school. I also really enjoy receiving other professionals points of view.

  6. Mark and Courtney Borden,
I hope that by video-taping I will be able to see myself being a facilitator and assure that I am doing everything that I can to assist the students. I do appreciate your suggestion to use poll daddy that would be a new tool for me to use.

  7. I think seeking out those individuals whom are proficient in using technology tools is a great action to utilize for becoming successful in your goals. From personal experience, I seek out 2 particular colleagues...one that has already has her masters in technology and one that is very knowledgeable in computers. They have been a great help to me and to the rest of my teammates in the 4th grade. Having that support system encourages one to pursue technology applications that will enhance student learning.

  8. This is one topic that I need to improve in as well. I like the idea of creating a community of teachers that are already proficient in technology so that you can learn from them and so that technology can be the main focus, but I also think that it is important for other teachers who do not use as much technology to be included so that they can learn how simple and rewarding it is to use technology.
