Week 6 Game Plan

What have you learned so far that you can apply in your instructional practice?

In last week's next step assignment there were many useful resources regarding other professionals and their use of technology in the classroom. I feel that the resources that were provided will be very useful in implementing my own technology driven activities in the classroom.

What goals are you still working toward?

I will continually be working towards finding Professional Learning Communities were technology is the main focus to explore various creative implementations of technology.

Based on the NETS-T, what new learning goals will you set for yourself?

Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity.

What learning approaches will you try next time to improve your learning?

I will work more on facilitating Problem Based Learning and handing over more of the teaching to the students and allowing them to make more choices.

  1. Could you begin by creating a thematic unit that could be used to collaborate with another teacher at your school or district before attempting an online assignment? It seems that we are spending a great deal of time searching for others to collaborate with around the world when maybe we should start at home until the kinks are worked out. what do you think?

  2. Amber,
The past couple of weeks of planning Problem Based Learning Lessons have been quite challenging for me. This is typically not my teaching style. Like you, I would like to have my students engage in more of these types of activities in order to take ownership of their learning. How are you planning on doing this? I plan on collaborating with my co-teacher for Reading in order to develop some units that will require the students to discover their answers. I am very excited about this opportunity.

The website above has a listing of Problem Based Learning Activities. Sometimes I cannot wrap my brain around Problem Based Learning, and websites like these make something in my brain click. For instance, my project for the applications are about students making up the lunch menu to be healthier. I never thought of them tracking calories of the existing lunch in Excel. This was an idea I found on this website (after the fact). But I have it in my notes to possibly use later on or incorporate it into my existing lesson plans. There is so much out there. It can be really overwhelming at times.
